Why no new posts here, you ask?

I found that I enjoyed posting more on bigger, established blogs and engaging others in discussion and debate. So I'm going to leave this up as a convenient repository for my info while I go around and post on other blogs.

I am a "maverick leftist". I am on the left because I support: gay rights; reparations for slavery; the ACLU; environmentalism; progressive taxation; a worldwide living wage; universal health care; fair trade; and the Palestinian struggle against apartheid Israel. I am a "maverick" because I am for: mothers staying with their babies for the first year or two (breastfeeding and bonding are hugely important!); ending affirmative action (which is patronising to minorities, ignores the more important issue of class, and leads to all minorities who are in elite universities or high paying jobs being seen as unqualified beneficiaries of AA, whether true or not) and focusing instead on increasing funding for impoverished school systems; and a hawkish foreign policy, focused on toppling brutal human rights violating dictators (which is why I supported invading Iraq--that does not mean I support the abysmal way Bush and Rumsfeld have handled it!).
